March Book Madness 2025

Wow!  March was such an exciting month for all the Lakeside Lion readers!  Thanks to the EGR Schools Foundation, we were able to participate in March Book Madness, a bracket style competition between 16 titles in two categories, Picture Books and Chapter Books (4th-5th grades).  Students read the books, discussed, sometimes argued, and gushed over their favorites, and ultimately voted on which book they wanted to advance to the next week.  This fun event culminated with lunch time assembly to announce the winners right before break.  In the Picture Book category “Magic Ramen: The Story of Momofuku Ando” faced off against “The Book That Almost Rhymed.” “Magic Ramen” ended up in hot water with “The Book That Almost Rhymed” being crowned our 2025 Picture Book winner.  For our Chapter Book category, “A Strange Thing Happened in Cherry Hall” by Jasmine Warga faced off against “Faker” by Gordon Korman.  “A Strange Thing Happened in Cherry Hall” took home the win.  This is a quirky mystery involving a stolen painting, a ghost, and a turtle… 

This year we had a new “Wall of Fame” challenge during March Book Madness and I could not be more proud of all the students that rose to the challenge.  For the Chapter Book bracket, students reading 8 of the 16 books were awarded honorable mention, while students reading all 16 titles became our 16 Book Champs.  Students had their pictures posted in the school on our Wall of Fame AND, with parent permission, students also got the opportunity to have their picture displayed at the EGR Kent District Library.  If you know one of these students, please be sure to congratulate them on their amazing accomplishment.
